HAWKS CHEERLEADING 2024-2025

 Program Options:

We have a variety of options depending on your child’s interest and skill level:

Sideline Cheer ($675) Teams will cheer for Parker Hawks football games with practices starting in June through the Super Bowl in November 2023. Game schedules will be determined by the coaches but will mostly occur on Saturdays. Practices will be held 1 to 2 days a week depending on the coach/team. Days and times for practices are TBD. Cheerleaders will learn a mix of offense, defense, and crowd spirit cheers as well as time-out dances and halftime routines with stunts, jumps, and tumbling. Registration will open May 8, 2024.

Competition Cheer ($650) These athletes will compete at three local cheer competitions where they will perform a 2 minute and 30 second traditional rec routine consisting of a cheer, dance, tumbling, jumps, and stunts. Students must participate in Sideline Cheer to compete in this category and be 3rd grade or older. Tryouts will also be required. Suggested skills needed: cartwheel, roundoff, front walkover, back walkover, back handspring, and prior cheer experience is a plus. We will hold camps and conditioning clinics to assess your child’s skill level prior to tryouts and registration. Registration will open TBD.

 Skills Covered:

Your child will learn a multitude of athletic skills during this program and will be assessed on their growth throughout the year. Tumbling – Cheerleaders will work on proper form and practice front rolls, back rolls, cartwheels, roundoffs, back handsprings, tucks.

Stunting – Cheerleaders will learn the basic stunting positions and progress through level-one ground stunts, thigh/below prep stunts, prep and one leg stunts, extensions, and basket tosses.

Cheer Motions – Cheerleaders will learn the motion names, positions and how to “hit” the move on count.

Formations/Transitions – Cheerleaders will learn what a formation is and how to stay in a formation as well as how to transition to new formations.

Cheer Jumps – Cheerleaders will learn the basic cheer jumps and practice the tuck, star, toe touch, hurdle, and pike.

Music/Rhythm – Cheerleaders will learn how to count music and will perform 8 count dances to the rhythm.

 Teams and Games:

For sideline, we will have multiple Hawks Cheerleading teams. Athletes will be placed on teams according to their skill/experience level and age. We will host a skills assessment camp prior to placing your child on a team. We will take into account teammate preferences. This approach will ensure your child is in the best environment to help them grow and perform at the best of their ability. The number of teams will depend on the number of volunteer coaches that apply. If you’d like more information about what it means to be a coach, please review our Volunteers page and email us at Cheerleading@parkerhawks.org. No experience necessary! We will provide training and materials. You just need to love kids and have a lot of patience.

Beginner – No cheer, dance, or gymnastics experience

Intermediate – Some cheer, dance or gymnastics experience or can do a cartwheel, roundoff, and/or backbend, and understands cheer/dance motions

Advanced – Cheer and stunting experience and can do a back handspring or other tumbling skills

Teams will practice 1-2 days a week at a field in Parker and will cheer for a Hawks football game every Saturday. Game locations and times will vary.
